Recently found the works of art duo Ryan Wilson Paulsen and Anna Gray, or Ryanna. I really love their 100 Posters series, featuring different quotes and statements held by the artists. This work not only defines the banalities of growing up and into this world, but the messages held become proclamations, announcements, hopes and protests to the kind of social enforcement we all are challenged with.
I was very moved to hear Sally Mann speak about her new body of work, Proud Flesh, on NPR. Mann photographs her husband in vulnerable yet refine postures that express his struggle with muscular dystrophy. I can only begin to imagine the strength of Larry Mann in spite of this challenging disease and his openness to allow Sally to capture the challenges he, and they, face. It’s a beautiful and thoughtful series that explores the deepness of love, dedication and the challenge we face due to disease and discomfort.
